Join the Exciting World of Amateur ("Ham") Radio.
Want to talk to the astronauts aboard the International Space Station, or speak with your friends across town? How about sending digital signals through satellites or linking your radio to fellow hams around the world? You can do all this – and more – with just the entry-level amateur radio license.
If you are interested in learning about Amateur Radio and how you can become a "ham," visit the American Radio Relay League website www.arrl.org. The ARRL is the national organization for amateur radio in Newington, Connecticut. Then contact the Nittany Amateur Radio Club (NARC) for more information.
The Nittany Amateur Radio Club offers ham classes once a year during the winter months. This class is all you need to get started in the exciting Amateur Radio hobby.
Amateur Radio Classes - For Whom:
Nittany Amateur Radio Club ham classes are for individuals or families, ages ten through one-hundred, who are interested in radio communications both around town and around the world. Amateur ("ham") radio is an exciting hobby that involves voice, video, and data communications. Anyone interested in making new friends, learning radio technology, and enjoying great camaraderie will find Amateur Radio the perfect hobby.
How can the Nittany Amateur Radio Club help?
Students who take the NARC ham radio course will enter the Amateur Radio hobby through the guidance of experienced amateur radio enthusiasts. The instructors and members of the Nittany Amateur Radio Club prepare the student for the written test necessary to receive an amateur radio license. In addition, students will be coached through their entry into the local amateur radio community and in meeting new Ham Radio friends.
The NARC Ham Class objective:
To obtain the entry-level (Technician Class) Amateur Radio license and get started in the fascinating Amateur Radio hobby. Students are provided with all information, coaching, and tutoring necessary to pass the Federal Communications Commission’s amateur radio exam. The FCC exam is given in class on the final meeting date.
